Old-school unhomogenised milk for coffee beverages, why it tastes so good, review of gold top Maleny Dairy milk

I love this stuff.

It's the best milk i've found locally available in coles or woolies for coffee. Maleny Dairies with the gold top, from (mostly) the Guernsey varietal of cow.

Notice the creamy colour of this milk... compared to your standard milk, it is distinctly yellower. According to my tongue, yellower is better. Tastes noticeably creamier and sweeter. Guernseys produce milk that is high in Protein and Butterfat, with a creamy appearance and taste.

It's unhomogenised, which basically means it hasn't gone through the process other milks go through where it all gets mixed up to an even and 'homogenised' texture. It's the homogenization in most full cream milks which stops the cream from rising to the top.

Ask the elderly and they'll tell you this is how milk used to be in the good old days.

When you open an unhomogenised milk, often there will be a layer of cream on the top of the milk. You can mix this in for extra creaminess, or scoop it out. If you're frothing a jug for a coffee beverage it will be all be combined anyway.

I've found the quality of this milk to be pretty consistent too.

I also belong to the school of thought that no-fat milk is best not used in coffee beverages. If you're going to take all the goodness out of milk and mix it with coffee, taste-wise I reckon you're better off adding filtered water and going for a long black instead.
